The Hippo is a Tier 4 Pet, available in the Turtle Pack. Whenever Hippo knocks out an enemy, it gains a hefty amount of attack and health, this buff will double when knocking out opposing pets which are Tier 4 or higher. Leveling up the Hippo will increase the amount of stats it gains upon a successful knock out.

Strategy

Hippo is a counter pet designed to steamroll through summon builds. It will "heal" itself after each knock out, and is best paired with defensive food perks such as Garlic and Melon to maximize its chance at surviving and knocking out more pets. Chili is another good option since it can knock out the second enemy and trigger Hippo's ability. Pairing Hippo with a front Rat can give it a few additional buffs from knocking out the Dirty Rat(s).

Scaling a front-most Hippo is a common strategy to win rounds in mid game, as it can be quite unstoppable against summoners around the same turns. A backline Hippo can also work to clean up the weak enemies. Even against scaled units, if your Hippo is stronger, it can knock out the enemy's scaled unit and activate its Knock Out ability, steamrolling the usually weaker backline.

The hippo may be an excellent early to mid game option, even being good near the start of Tier 6, but keep in mind that as the game gets further, you will likely face highly scaled units that make it hard for the Hippo's ability to shine, as well as Summon Comps having strong pets such as Turkey combined with a Tiger or a Parrot that can overwhelm your Hippo.
