The Silver Fox is a Tier 5 Pet that is found in the Golden Pack. Before it attacks, it gives gold for your next turn up to three times depending on its level.

Strategy

Silver Fox's strength lies in it being a unique gold pet that provides an amount of gold that's roughly proportional to its staying power on the battlefield. If it engages in any battle at all it will give 1 Gold (equivalent to a level 1 Swan). If a level 3 Silver Fox engages in 3 battles, this provides a maximum of 9 Gold (equivalent to a level 3 Hammerhead Shark). Importantly, Silver Fox should be kept in a position where it will always see combat. This can be the 1st position, but a Silver Fox can also be kept in 2nd or 3rd position so it faces weaker enemies and triggers its ability more.

Silver Fox works exceptionally well with strategies requiring gold to scale, such as food builds or buy/sell builds. This is because it allows these builds to effectively scale quadratically. Broadly speaking, gold-scaling builds gain stats proportional to the amount of gold they have to spend (as an example, a typical Dragon build can buy 4 Tier 1 pets in a turn if fortunate). Silver Fox itself gains more gold the more it's scaled, creating a potent positive feedback loop that can skyrocket a team's stats. Examples of scalers it works well with are Bird of Paradise, Dragon, and Cat. Gold-based scalers are a large and diverse group, so Silver Fox will almost never find itself wanting for synergy.

Left on auto-scaling teams with scalers such as the Monkey, Silver Fox loses its gold synergy but still performs well, as extra gold is invaluable for rolling for level-ups or perks. On a summon build, Silver Fox can potentially provide extra gold, especially if fed Mushrooms, but it is typically is outclassed by dedicated Faint pets, which provide the firepower that summon teams desperately need. All in all, if you're not running a summon strategy, it's nearly always reasonable to invest in a Silver Fox if pivoting during Round 7-9 (T4 - T5).

Silver Fox also synergises well with the more niche group of Gold-dependent power units. For example, the Gazelle gains stats for every Gold a Silver Fox generates, up to a maximum gain of 27/27 if both pets are max level. A high-level Okapi can gain significant bonuses and stay relevant late-game even without special investment, as the Gold supplied by a Silver Fox naturally causes more rolling per turn.

Like any other unit, Silver Foxes can be used as a fodder unit if an extra space is available on the team. These units typically aim to break protective perks such as Melon for the power units on the team. Silver Fox can function as one due to the extra gold it gives, but is arguably outclassed by other fodder units that offer more offensive utility, such as Skunk, Scorpion, and Turtle. At a somewhat heavy investment it can be given protective perks of its own to potentially yield 2 gold, but is vulnerable to sniping or high damage in the case of Melon.

Finally, the Silver Fox can be bought with the intention to frontload gold costs for a pivot. As it provides nearly guaranteed extra Gold next turn, it is above average but still does not perform exceptionally in this role. Its base stats won't do much offensively at Turn 9+ (outside of melon-breaking), and its gold gain in this case is equivalent to that of a Swan, Pig or Chinchilla, making it not much better than these low-tier options (assuming it is only kept for a single turn). Avocado provides 2 additional Gold on the subsequent turn, but does not also provide a fodder unit. If available, specialized pivot pets such as the Alpaca or Lobster will contribute more in most scenarios.

In conclusion, Silver Fox is a versatile power unit that does not provide immediate offensive advantages but will benefit the majority of scaling teams, especially gold scalers, given investment.
