Super Auto Pets is a game with an incredibly diverse range of different strategies. Here is a list of some of the most powerful/fun combos between certain pets, sorted by pack and ordered from early to late game. Updated for Version 0.41!
Turtle Pack
- Duck:
Duck has one of the most powerful tier 1 abilities in the game, but many beginner players don't get maximum value from it. If you have a number of Ducks and one or more level ups turn 3, don't level up immediately. Instead, roll until you find good targets for your duck health, freezing one or two pets like
Peacock or
Swan and only then taking the level up and selling the duck. This way you maximize the amount of units the Duck stats hit.
- Kangaroo + Camel:
Kangaroo and
Camel are both strong pets that don't require a lot of thought to play well. By putting the Kangaroo directly behind the Camel, you can make the Kangaroo really big and probably able to wipe much of an opponent's team. Alternatively, you can put the Camel in front of another unit with a fair amount of health and this way get extra value from your Kangaroo.
- Elephant + Blowfish:
Elephant can be used in a number of combos, but the most potent is with
Blowfish. Put the Blowfish directly behind the elephant so that in battle you can frequently trigger its ability without doing much damage. You can even take this into the endgame by putting a Tiger behind the
Blowfish and perhaps a
Wolverine in back (with level 3 Elephant it will trigger every time the Elephant attacks).
- Level 3 Skunk + Dolphin: At level 3,
Skunk reduces the highest-health enemy pet to 1 hp. Since Dolphin targets the lowest-hp pet, you can use this combo to instantly delete your opponent's strongest pet before the battle even starts! Keep in mind that they might have melon, so level 2 Dolphin is advised. Also, it's important to remember that abilities trigger based on order of attack, so you need to make the Skunk have higher attack than the Dolphin in order to have it trigger first.
- Armadillo + Scorpion:
Scorpion has small base stats and is often taken into battle as just a 1/1 scam pet, but it can be even better if allowed to trigger more than once. Combining it with
Armadillo can do just this, and the health given to opposing pets won't matter because
Peanut doesn't care about health!
- Cat + Cow: One of the disadvantages of
Cat is that it takes six gold to exhaust its triggers and get full scaling benefit (compare this to something like
Monkey where you don't have to pay anything at all). By buying a
Cow, you can get +4/+8 in buffs for only 3 gold, or just two if you immediately sell the cow. These stats skyrockets at higher cow levels. The combo is especially great when adding Cat to your team, as you can buy-sell the cow, buy the cat, and then buy the free
Milk with the cat multiplier.
- Dragon + Dog:
Dog can provide powerful tempo (short-term value) in the midgame, but you don't have to throw it away as the turns progress! When buy-selling tier 1 pets with
Dragon, a level 2 or higher Dog can gain a remarkable amount of temporary stats in addition to the permanent ones, often allowing you to stabilize as you build into a strong endgame.
- Lategame Rat:
Rat is a pet that sometimes is only bought in the early game for its stats and then soon sold, but it actually has some powerful combos with higher tier pets. Putting Rat in front of
Rhino, for instance, gives the Rhino a snipe trigger for almost free. Rat in front of
Boar gives the boar extra stats, allowing it to have more of a change to punch through the next pet in line. Having a
Snake behind these pets means that the Snake gets to snipe an extra time as well, doubling down on the synergy.
- Exodia: This is an advanced strategy to make maximum use of
Snake, already one of the very best tier 6s. The front pet can be anything, but ideally either a summon pet or a pet with good stats. Behind it should be a Snake with
Mushroom. Behind that, place a
Tiger, and put in the back a
Fly and a
Turkey. Tiger will allow the Snake to snipe extra times, and Fly will give an extra trigger after the first pet faints. Because of the way Mushroom works, when the Snake faints it will respawn after the
Zombie Fly that replaces it, allowing even more Snake snipes! Turkey makes the combo more potent by giving the summoned Zombie Flies stats, which can even make it more likely for them to hit multiple times and get more Snake value. Note: multiple parts of this combo are good just on their own, so you can build a powerful board even without every component piece. However, putting it all together makes it very strong, and this is reason for its name.
- Hogxodia: This is another advanced strategy that revolves around
Hedgehog. Put a Hedgehog with
Mushroom at the front and then line up hurt pets behind it, ideally
Blowfish. At the back, you can put a
Wolverine, which will benefit from the self-hurting and give your Blowfish snipes more potential to knock out opponents.
Puppy Pack
- Beluga Sturgeon + Mole: The
Dolphins summoned by
Beluga Sturgeon have
Rice and are placed in the back, two features that might sometimes be considered odd. However, this is perfect for synergy with
Mole, as depending on the level of the Beluga Sturgeon you can get a partial or even full Mole trigger for free by putting the one in front of the other.
- Microbe + Tahr/Snapping Turtle: A great way to take advantage of
Microbe is by putting either
Tahr or
Snapping Turtle behind it. By doing this, you replace the weakness with a valuable perk, and at the same time the damage done by the perk is increased by the weakness -- in the case of Snapping Turtle it's actually doubled. Making
Panther your target pet is even better, as it will take greater advantage of the perk given.
- Dragon + Goat: Dragon is a better scaler in Puppy Pack than Turtle Pack for one main reason: it has more support that allows it to trigger multiple times. Goat is the perfect example of this, making it much easier for Dragon to max out its triggers and perhaps even have gold to spare. For a similar combo to Pack 1's Dragon + Dog (see above), you can also add
Buffalo to the mix.
Star Pack
- Big Sell: A big part of the pack revolves around getting a Tier 1 pet above 10 attack and then eventually selling it to get stats from
Starfish on lategame pets. There are numerous pets to aid with this throughout the pack, such as
Bass (only works with sell pets) and
Elk. Additionally,
Fried Shrimp is a great resource for getting the requisite attack, and
Seaweed allows the pet to maintain in-battle power in addition to just a big statline. If you have two level 3 pets you want to sell, one doesn't need to go over 4 attack because selling the other one first with a level 2 Starfish will give it the 6 attack needed to get over the threshold.
- Leech + Tuna: Since
Tuna stores triggers between rounds if hurt outside of battle, you can use
Leech to stock up on triggers over the course of many turns and get the benefit in battle. In the lategame when you have good buff targets, you can make these stats permanent by buy-selling
Pillbug and pilling the Tuna.
- Anteater + Pill: If you have a level 2
Anteater you wish to sell, you can get more gold from it by buy-selling a
Pillbug and pilling the Anteater instead of just selling the Anteater directly. If you have a
Starfish, you can get a stat bonus from this too, although the
Ants won't have 10 attack and so won't trigger the 3x bonus.
- Starfish + Platypus:
Platypus is one of the pack's strongest tier 4s because of its ability to give a powerful in-battle summon and have a strong sell ability. Where this really gets to shine is in combination with
Starfish, as Platypus functions as three sell pets in one. It takes some commitment to get a level three Platypus, but the payoff of this strategy is very high and makes keeping Starfish after an original Big Sell pivot (see above) a viable strategy. Note that Starfish's ability triggers after the
Duck and
Beaver are summoned, giving them the 10 attack needed for their own 3x bonuses.
- Pelican + Swordfish: The main disadvantage of
Swordfish is that especially at higher levels, its ability tends to either knock itself out or (if
Pepper is used) deal a great deal of damage to itself. This can be actively detrimental if the opponent's largest unit isn't as big as the Swordfish. However, if
Pelican is used in conjunction with it, the Swordfish can activate after it has already technically fainted, allowing it to give a massive snipe for no cost at all and still be resummoned as a
Salmon (with even more snipes!). Note: The Pelican must trigger before the Swordfish for this strategy to work, and this is difficult to do because you are most likely to want to buff the Swordfish. Make sure to keep buffing the Pelican, or get lucky and get
Churros from
Dumbo Octopus.
- Mantis + Spinosaurus:
Spinosaurus is often used for summon builds, but it can also be a quite effective scaler when combined with
Praying Mantis, as each Mantis trigger will give the Spino a trigger as well, making its stats permanent instead of temporary.
- Mantis + Ammonite: When you have a big enough
Praying Mantis and you want to have a 5-squad instead of having to knock out a pet every turn, you can use
Ammonite to turn the Mantis into a
Mimic Octopus, a pet with a strong ability that benefits from the Mantis's high stats.
Golden Pack
- Sea Urchin + Egg: In the early game,
Sea Urchin's health reduction will often be powerful enough to take an opposing pet to 1 health. By putting an egg on the unit behind, you can often get through a medium-sized unit without actually taking any damage. This isn't strong enough or reliable enough to do every time, but it can be good if you have an egg in the shop and nothing else worth spending gold on. - African Penguin + Surgeon Fish: As
African Penguin gives attack and
Surgeon Fish gives health, you can use both on the same team to get two large units with balanced statlines that can clear many early opposing teams.
- Bear + Royal Flycatcher: Since the
Honey that
Bear gives the opponent a
Bee summon, Bear can be used to activate
Royal Flycatcher. This combo isn't very good on its own, but it can be decent when combined with other strategies in order to guarantee a Flycatcher snipe.
- Back Musk Ox/PDF/Cobra with Trumpets: Since "friend ahead attacks/faints" pets benefit from having summons in front of them,
Musk Ox,
Poison Dart Frog, and
Cobra often like to be in the back because if you have any trumpet generation at all, they can act as essentially a free trigger. This can even go on top of other summons like
Slug, since the Golden Retriever waits for all summons to clear before going itself.
- Turn 7 Stoat Sell:
Stoat can be valuable as a buy-sell when trying to find more copies of a particular pet, but it can also give you a great power boost if you keep it on your team. Buy a Stoat in the early turns and try to get it to level 2 by turn 7. This is the best time to sell it in most cases, as the pack's tier 4s are very strong and there are few, if any, really bad hits. When you get the 1/1 summon from the Stoat, you can find another copy of the pet in shop to combine it with in order to get it to a reasonable statline, and then you can build your team around whatever you got!
- Flea + Slug + PDF: Since
Flea and
Poison Dart Frog both target the highest-health enemy, you can use this combo to obliterate health-based teams with surprising ease. It's especially effective against Turtle Pack big units with garlic, as the flea turns -2 damage into +3. Of course,
Slug isn't the only summoner that can work, and in fact putting the Slug inside a
Beluga Whale is even better.
- Beluga + Chocolate Cake:
Beluga Whale is one of the strongest pets in the pack for a reason, and part of that is its versatility. This gets even better with chocolate cake, as Beluga doubles and triples the pet's base statline at levels 2 and 3, meaning you can use even stat-demanding pets and have them work well. Some of the best Beluga targets are tech pets like
Slug and
Nyala and pets with great statlines and abilities like
Fire Ant,
Warthog, and
Wildebeest.
- Catfish + BRO:
Blue Ringed Octopus is a great pet to buy-sell, but with the inclusion of both
Waffle and
Catfish in the pack, it can give some serious value as a long-term member of your team. With this latter, it can make one of the strongest scaling combos in the pack, giving +36/+36 stats (+9/+9 to each pet that's not the BRO) every turn. When you get up to 50/50 on four pets, you can simply sell the BRO and replace it with a strong tech unit of your choice.
- Endgame 4-squad: Perhaps Golden Pack's most formidable scaling method in the lategame comes through buy-selling pets with
Bird of Paradise. Several pets that can be taken earlier in the run, like
Manta Ray and
Macaque, facilitate this. Using gold-efficient buy-sell pets like
Oyster and
Stoat and other valuable buy-sells like
Blue Ringed Octopus, you can quite easily max out the triggers on your BOP and get a lot of additional stats for your team.
Unicorn Pack
- ???:
??? has a lot of interesting strategies associated with it, both in the early game and beyond. As early as turn 2, it can be used with
Baku to give temporary +1 attack and permanent +1 health for free, as its
Spooked can be removed by the Baku. This might not sound like much, but it's quite good when one takes into account ???'s premium 3/3 base statline. Soon after, ??? can be used in a neat bit of tech to "soften" the effect of
Wall Chicken. Normally, getting
Weak is a hefty price to pay for +3 attack, but it's considerably better when replaced with Spooked instead. Finally, ??? can be a decent midgame scaler with
Unicorn, as the Unicorn will replace the Spooked with stats as soon as it gets applied.
- Ogopogo + Lucky Cat:
Lucky Cat is one of the best pets in the pack, as it's strong in both the tempo (short-term value) and gold departments. It is, of course, important to level it up, and this ought to happen in battle to get gold value every turn. Both
Ogopogo and
Gingerbread Man are very good for doing this, and you can even combine both if you're really going for it in order to get two level ups in one battle!
- Manticore + Phoenix: While it might not seem as strong as scaling on paper, this is an endgame combo that is seriously formidable. Replacing all enemy perks with
Crisp and then multiplying the damage done by that Crisp potentially many times, you can wipe out some of the biggest stat teams while suffering little damage on your end.
Danger Pack
- Togian Babirusa + Gros Michel Banana:
Togian Babirusa is already one of the best tier one pets in Danger Pack because of its exceptional 4/3 starting statline. However, you can eliminate its disadvantage by using
Gros Michel Banana, turning it into an ant. This can even be used to get transform triggers to power other pets further down the road.
- Macaw + Roloway Monkey:
Blue-Throated Macaw and
Roloway Monkey can be used in tandem to turn pets useless in battle into valuable hurt pets, then give them stats as an extra bonus. You can even use
Golden Tamarin later in the game to get a start of battle trigger before the Roloway Monkey triggers and get even more extra stats!
- Blue Whale Gaming: If you get
Blue Whale early with a lot of lives still intact, you can sell your entire team (or let it be removed after the next battle) and invest in the Blue Whale. It's important to get it to level 2 and even 3 as soon as possible. Once you do, the Blue Whale's shop scaling is good enough that you can realistically beat teams after just a couple of turns. There are lots of lategame units that are very good with stats and can be bought with no support, like
Sumatran Tiger,
Snow Leopard, and
Geometric Tortoise.
Painted Terrapin is also good because you likely won't have enough gold to buy perks. Once you've scaled the shop to 50/50 or whatever you deem satisfactory, you can sell your Blue Whale (probably your smallest unit by now) and buy a more permanent team with no need for any additional scaling.
